Hydrology and Hydro Geological studies
When undertaking research on a site and its immediate environs, the specialist water environment team at UK Accreditation is particularly interested in the following:
Presence of watercourses and floodplains e.g. name, location and size of watercourses, existing flood risk;
- Flood and groundwater flow routes e.g. location and importance;
- Groundwater levels including changes in levels and recharge;
- Groundwater vulnerability e.g. location and grade of source protection zone, classification of aquifer vulnerability;
- River and groundwater water supplies (potable, industrial or agricultural) e.g. location and number of abstraction points, volume of water abstracted, use of water;
- Presence of river and groundwater discharge points; e.g. location and number of discharge points, volume of effluent discharged;
- Contribution of discharges to total river flow e.g. proportion of flow made up by effluent at different times of the year;
- Any data pertaining to surface water, groundwater and still waters (lake/pond) quality e.g. existing chemical grade, EC Fishery designation, results of surveys, Invertebrate populations;
- Use of river and still waters (lake/pond) for recreation e.g. presence of facilities and clubs, use for angling (number of clubs/membership)
- Recorded pollution incidents/complaints;
- Recorded flooding incidents;
- Current or historical authorizations, permits or consents;
- Any knowledge of previous investigations or remediation activity relating to land contamination issues; and,
- Special Sites.
